BJP retains Betul Lok Sabha seat

BHOPAL: Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Hemant Khandelwal was declared elected in the Betul Parliamentary by-election on Wednesday.

Mr. Khandelwal defeated his nearest rival, Sukhdev Panse of the Congress, by a margin of 35,442 votes. Mr. Khandelwal polled 3,00,676 votes and Sukhdev Panse got 2,65,234. Rewaram, an Independent, polled the third highest number of votes. He got 23,051 votes. Trailing in the fourth place was Samajwadi Party MLA Sunilam with 21,698 votes.
