CHENNAI: Osama Salim (Velammal MHS) and Michelle Catharina (Good Shepherd) emerged the boys’ and girls’ champions respectively in the Chennai District under-13 chess championship held here. While Michelle grabbed the girls’ title with a half point lead, there was a two-way tie between Osama and Mugil Jayavel (Don Bosco) with 6 points each. Osama was declared the winner on better tie-break score. The top six from each category will represent the District in the State championship to be held at Rajapalayam from August 7 to 13. Important final round results: Boys: Seventh round: Osama Salim 6 drew with Mukesh.M (St. John’s) 5.5; N.R. Abhinav (Bhavan’s Rajaji Vidyashram) 5 lost to Mugil Jayavel 6; N. Raj Kumar (Velammal) 5 drew with Sai Kiran. S. (PSSS) 5; R. Roshan 4.5 drew with N. Aadityan (Jawahar Vidyalaya) 4.5; Neil Franclin (Chettinad Vidyashram) 5 bt Ram Bragadish (Rishi Valley ) 4.
