NEW DELHI: In view of the Olympic torch relay run on Rajpath on Thursday, the traffic police have advised motorists to avoid Rajpath, Rafi Marg, Janpath (between Motilal Nehru Place and Windsor Place), Man Singh Road and ‘C’ Hexagon between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. The route of the torch relay will be out of bounds for general traffic. Vijay Chowk, being the starting point of the relay, will remain closed to traffic from North/South of Rajpath till the departure of the tail of the relay. Those travelling from North Delhi to South Delhi and vice-versa or from South Delhi to New Delhi have been advised to take the following routes: Ashram Chowk-Sarai Kale Khan-Rajghat; Lajpat Rai Marg-Mathura Road-Bhairon Road-Ring Road; Aurobindo Marg-Safdarjung Chowk-Kamal Ataturk Marg-Kautilya Marg-Mother Teresa Crescent-Baba Kharak Singh Marg. Those coming from Shanti Path and going towards New Delhi and beyond can take the following route: Sardar Patel Marg-Panchsheel Marg-Simon Boulevar Marg-Upper Ridge Marg-Shankar Road-Park Street-Mandir Marg--Mother Teresa Crescent-Baba Kharak Singh Marg. “The traffic diversions might lead to congestion and have a cascading effect on traffic movement on alternative routes. Motorists and office-goers are advised to plan their journey in advance to avoid any inconvenience,” said Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) S. N. Shrivastava.
