Man killed for protesting against obscene SMS

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: A 24-year-old man was shot dead at Seelampur here on Tuesday for protesting against obscene text messages being sent to his mother and sister. Two of the accused have been arrested, while an accomplice is absconding.

It all happened around 10 p.m. when Ikramuddin of Ambedkar Basti in Maujpur went to Shahid’s house in the nearby Vijay Mohalla to protest against the teenager sending obscene text messages to his mother and sister.

Their altercation took an ugly turn and Shahid called his uncle Nooruddin to the house. Shahid, Nooruddin and his friend allegedly beat up Ikramuddin and later one of them shot him dead.

Ikramuddin was also accompanied by his friend Bittu who was locked up in adjoining room by the accused. On hearing the gunshots, neighbours gathered outside the house and beat up Shahid and Nooruddin. They took Ikramuddin to hospital where he was declared brought dead.

“For a long time Shahid had been sending vulgar text messages to Ikramuddin’s mother and sister. Despite being warned on several occasions, the accused refused to mend his way,” said a police officer.
