Kozhikode: The police have arrested two youths allegedly involved in a series of burglaries in the district. One of them is a prime accused in a recent theft case at a furnishing shop at the Koyenco Bazaar in the commercial Sweet Meat Street in the city. A special crime squad comprising Assistant Commissioner of Police (South) K.R. Premachandran nabbed K. Kannan, a resident of Cheeral Varikkeri Colony at Sulthan Bathery, Wayanad district; and K. Siraj, of Karaparamba on Wednesday. The police said Kannan had confessed to the crime that he, along with two others, had stolen textile goods from the furnishing shop worth Rs.25,000 and Rs.3,000 in cash. Two others involved in the case are still at large. A case was also pending against him in connection with the robbery at a stationery shop at Edacheri and theft of three jeeps at Gudalur, the police said. Siraj was nabbed from Valiyangadi in the city. He had reportedly stolen motorbikes from the Baby Memorial Hospital a week ago. He was also involved in the theft of a motorbike from the Kozhikode Cooperative Hospital in March. Several cases including pick pocketing were also pending against him at Koyilandy and Koduvally in the district. A case has also been registered against him at the Thoppumpadi station in Ernakulam district for stealing cash from an ATM counter at Thoppumpadi.
