“Not for total ban on hoarding industry”
Staff Reporter
CHENNAI: Citizen Consumer and Civic Action Group (CAG) on Wednesday said it was not for a total ban on the hoarding industry.
While welcoming the Supreme Court ruling and the consequent removal of billboards by the State government, CAG trustee N.L. Rajah said hoardings can be put up in places where they do not cause any distraction to motorists and are installed keeping safety aspects in mind.
Regulation
Addressing a press conference here, he said, “The hoarding industry does not want any regulation. It just wants billboards to be put up in a haphazard manner.
Not planned
“The Supreme Court had given a similar ruling in a case pertaining to hoardings in Delhi, which is a planned city. But Chennai is not a planned city and does not have space for hoardings.”
