Special Correspondent

JAIPUR: The public sector Jaipur Vidyut Vitaran Nigam has formulated an ambitious plan for supply of electricity to 693 villages and 1,296 hamlets in seven districts of Jaipur, Bharatpur and Kota divisions this year with an expenditure of Rs.197.57 crore.

The Chairman and Managing Director of Jaipur discom, R.G. Gupta, said here on Thursday that the villages to be electrified during 2008-09 would include 96 where no power transmission lines presently exist. Over 4 lakh families, including 2.96 lakh living below poverty line (BPL), inhabit these villages.

The villages and hamlets where power supply works have been sanctioned are situated in Dholpur, Jaipur, Karauli, Tonk, Sawai Madhopur, Baran and Bharatpur districts.

Mr. Gupta said the scheme would be completed in the next two years. The highest expenditure of Rs.42.39 crore will be undertaken in Bharatpur district to electrify 99 villages and 170 hamlets, followed by Rs.36.30 crore in Jaipur district and Rs.31.62 crore in Tonk district.

Mr. Gupta has been appointed Chairman of the Ajmer and Jodhpur discoms as well in addition to his present charge of heading the Jaipur discom. His new appointment is expected to bring uniformity to the power supply and renovation schemes in the areas covered by the three discoms in the State.
