Importance of ‘conversation control’ to improve communication skills highlighted

Tuticorin: Emotions should not dominate conversations and ego should be eschewed during formal/official chats, according to J. Lakshmi Narasimhan, senior consultant, See Change Consulting, Chennai.

Delivering the keynote address at a training program on ‘Effective Communication Skills’ organised by Confederation of Indian Industry, Tuticorin district, for executives from industry here on Thursday, he said that people should train themselves to develop ‘conversation control’ techniques for improving their communication skills.

There should be credibility in communication and art of listening should be developed.

Mr. Narasimhan said that ‘conversation control’ was essential to know when to speak and to distinguish between parallel and sequential conversations.

He urged the participants to practice the techniques of slowing down or speeding up conversation.

Role of English

The resource person also explained the role of English as a link language for business fraternity to expand the realms of trade overseas.

V. Ramasubramanian, Chairman, CII, Tuticorin district, said that team leaders in the industry should gain respect of their colleagues with every word they spoke.

Raja Sankaralingam, Vice Chairman of CII, Tuticorin District, spoke. A total of 40 managers of various industrial units situated in Tuticorin, Madurai, Tirunelveli and Virudhunagar districts, attended.
