HC stays roadworks within UAS premises
Staff Reporter
BANGALORE: In what could be described as a major relief to the staff and students of the University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS), Bangalore, the Karnataka High Court on Thursday stayed till further orders the construction of a road bisecting the campus.
The UAS had petitioned the court against what it claimed was an attempt by some of the residents of Judicial Layout from going ahead with the construction of a road which passed through the premises and was dangerously close to the university’s vast and invaluable collection of rare plants and trees.
It said that if the road was allowed to be completed, it would inconvenience the students, apart from causing disturbance.
Justice D.V. Shylendra Kumar, before whom the petition was filed, passed an interim order as sought for and also stayed action of the Judicial Layout Residents and Site Owners’ Association from going ahead with the construction of a road.
He adjourned further hearing on the case.
