THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Activists of the AIYF picketed Central government offices across the State on Thursday to protest against the price rise and the cut in Kerala’s quota of ration articles. Inaugurating the picketing in front of the Accountant General’s office here, CPI State secretary Veliyam Bhargavan came down heavily on the Centre for its policies which, he said, had accentuated the inflationary pressures in the economy. He also criticised the attitude of Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar when the multi-party delegation from the State led by Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan and Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy called on him to plead for restoration of Kerala’s quota of ration rice. The people, he said, would give a fitting answer to the UPA if urgent steps were not taken to reverse the price rise. Hundreds of AIYF activists gathered at the different gates of the AG’s office from early in the morning, blocking entry into the office. – Special Correspondent
