Four arrested in fraud case
NEW DELHI: Four persons, including an elderly shopkeeper, have been arrested for allegedly stealing two bank drafts and getting them credited to a fake account. The total value of the two drafts was Rs. 99,590.
Attributing their success to their “Eyes and Ears Scheme”, the police said vendors, rickshaw pullers and shopkeepers in the area helped them in identifying one of the accused, Umesh Sharma (30), which eventually led to the arrest of his accomplice.
According to the police, Ashok Kumar of Shastri Nagar got a case registered at the Subzi Mandi police station on March 3 saying that his two bank drafts were stolen and later credited to a fake account in Central Bank of India.
During investigation, the police learnt that the account had been opened in the name of Ashok Kumar using fake documents. The fake driving licence bearing the picture of one of the accused was shown to vendors, rickshaw pullers and shopkeepers in the area and they identified him as Umesh Sharma of New Chandrawal. He was subsequently arrested. After opening the account, the money was credited into the account and later withdrawn through a cheque.
