CPI(M) welcomes Nepal election verdict

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has welcomed the results of the Nepal elections in which the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoists) put up an impressive performance.

“Against monarchy”

“This is a clear and unambiguous verdict against the monarchy and for the transition towards a democratic republic,” the party said in a statement.

“The change in Nepal should be the basis for the consolidation of bilateral relations between India and Nepal on the basis of equality and cooperation. The Government of India, having welcomed the elections and the results in Nepal, should now make it clear that it has nothing in common with the negative and hostile stand taken by the U.S., which has declared the Maoists a terrorist organisation,” it added.
