Adiseshiah award for Yogendra Singh Yadav

CHENNAI: Political scientist and psephologist Yogendra Singh Yadav has won this year’s Malcolm Adiseshiah Award.

Mr. Yadav, who is senior fellow, Centre for the Study of Developing Societies, New Delhi, was chosen from a list of eleven nominees for his overall contributions to political science.

The 2008 awardee, who is chief adviser to the National Council of Educational Research and Training, has coordinated several national election studies.

Announcing the award at a press conference on Thursday, H.B.N. Shetty, executive trustee, Malcolm and Elizabeth Adiseshiah Trust, said the award would be presented at a function here on November 21 to coincide with the death anniversary of Malcolm Adiseshiah.

In line with convention, the ceremony will be followed by an Adiseshiah memorial oration by the awardee.

The cash prize for the prestigious award and citation has been enhanced to Rs. 2 lakh since last year.

This is the eighth award and the first to be given to a political scientist, said A. Vaidyanathan, trustee.

The jury comprised D. M. Nachane, director, Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research, Mumbai, Partha Chaterjee, professor of political science, Centre for Studies in Social Sciences, Kolkata, and D. L. Sheth, honorary senior fellow, Centre for Study of Developing Societies, Delhi.

The Malcolm and Elizabeth Adiseshiah Trust’s activities include developing instructional materials in economics for universities, honouring the best teacher of economics with an annual award and conducting essay contests in the name of Elizabeth Adiseshiah, wife of Malcolm Adiseshiah.
