Medical students plan laughter show

Staff Reporter

CFL to illuminate poor children’s lives

The show is in aid of paediatric emergency care fund

Over 400 children have benefited from the fund

BANGALORE: The students of St. John’s Medical College (SJMCH) are putting up a two-hour Laughter Show called The Mad Med Men for Life at St. John’s Auditorium, Koramangala, Bangalore, on Saturday at 6.30 p.m. The show is in aid of the Child for Life (CFL) paediatric emergency care fund, contributing to life-saving measures provided to underprivileged children.

The fund itself was initiated by Parveen Sikand and Adithya Menon whose child was admitted at SJMCH for treatment in 1998.

During their hospital stay, they realised that there were many underprivileged families who could not afford treatment for their children. Moved by their state, the Menon family initiated the paediatric emergency care fund CFL. This fund is nurtured by the Department of Paediatrics and supported by the hospital administration. More than 400 children with acute life-threatening conditions like pneumonia, gastroenteritis, burns, poisoning and snake bites have benefited from the fund so far. CFL assists children with other chronic conditions such as thalassemia, tuberculosis and HIV. Tickets, priced at Rs. 50 will be available at the venue an hour before the show. Those who cannot make it to the show but would like to contribute to the fund may send in their donations by cheque or demand draft drawn in favour of “CBCI Society for Medical Education (Child for Life Fund)” payable at Bangalore. Donations get income tax exemption.

Further information regarding the programme, Child for Life Fund and donation procedure may be obtained at Department of Paediatrics, SJMCH, or by calling Chita Dinakar (9880181000), Swarna Rekha (9845036280), Anand Prakash (9341226883), Parveen Sikand (9845047739) or emailing drlewin@gmail.com
