‘District administration pressured by Congress’ DAVANGERE: Renukacharya, former MLA from Honnali, has alleged that the Davangere district administration pressured by the Congress had conducted raids on the houses of BJP leaders in Kulambi and registered false cases against the BJP leaders by seizing over 100 saris, only to defame the BJP. Similarly, the district police had seized vehicles belonging to the leaders of the BJP parked near a warehouse to collect BJP flags sent from Bangalore, on the pretext that the vehicles were transporting saris to be distributed to women voters in Honnali. Talking to reporters here on Friday, Mr. Renukacharya said that a false case was also booked against him saying that he tried to bribe women voters by distributing saris. He said that the Congress, which could not tolerate the growing popularity of the BJP, had been trying to malign the BJP and the BJP leaders with false complaints and cheap political gimmicks. He said that a few BJP leaders in Kulambi who were temple convenors had conducted a mass marriage in the village last month and many saris which were left over were stocked at their residences. Was having 100 saris in a house an offence? he asked and said that the district administration had been conducting raids on the houses of BJP leaders at the behest of the district administration. He also claimed that Superintendent of Police Sonia Narang wanted to fix him in one case or the other. Hence, he demanded that she be transferred immediately.
