Inner Ring Road to be extended

VIJAYAWADA: The Vijayawada Guntur Tenali Mangalagiri – Urban Development Authority (VGTM-UDA) proposes to lay a road connecting National Highway (NH)-9 and the Inner Ring Road (IRR), which is being planned.

It will begin at Rayanapadu junction and join at Y.V. Rao Estate junction, covering a distance of 6.8 km. The road is expected to be useful for diverting traffic coming from Hyderabad, near Gollapudi. UDA officials have estimated the proposed road, including a Road over Bridge (RoB), to cost about Rs. 60 crores. The UDA proposes to develop the roads with the funds available under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM). Along with IRR, the total length of the road would be 16.8 kms from Rayanapadu junction to Ramavarappadu.

The UDA has invited tenders to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for this road.

This new road would be developed on the other side of Nainavaram flyover, while the IRR begins at Nainavaram flyover and joins NH-5 at Ramavarappadu ring road, passing through Gunadala, Nunna and other areas.

The 100-ft IRR from Ambapuram to Ramvarappadu, which links NH-9 and NH-5, is being developed at a cost of Rs. 74.24 crores.

Because of the UDA’s proposal to develop a road on the other side of the Nainavaram flyover too, the total cost of the project would go up to Rs. 134.24 crores.

The UDA has taken up the first phase of IRR recently, and received letters of consent from a few farmers and plot owners. In the first phase, the UDA would develop the ring road from Nainavaram flyover to Nuzvid.

The 10-km IRR would pass through Ambapuram and Nuzvid road, before dividing Payakapuram and joining Ramavarappadu ring road.

It would pass through Nunna-Gunadala Road at Payakapuram. The UDA would construct a bridge across Budameru at an estimated cost of Rs. 2 crores in the first phase.

UDA Vice-Chairman Y.S. Prasad said on Thursday that the entire project had been divided into three packages, of which the first one would be taken up at a cost of Rs. 19.72 crores.

The IRR would bring down the travel time of traffic coming from Hyderabad and heading towards Ramavarappadu ring road.

In addition, there would be a scope for the development of the city on its northern side.
