No shortage of ambulances at GH, says Minister

Staff Reporter

PUDUCHERRY: Issues relating to the alleged lack of adequate number of ambulances in the Union Territory were highlighted in the Assembly on Friday.

Raising the issue during question hour, V.K Ganapathy (Puducherry Munnetra Congress) brought to the notice of the House a recent incident in which the Resident Medical Officer of a Government Hospital refused to provide an ambulance to transport a critically ill patient to Karaikal. His intervention in the issue also did not yield any positive result, Mr. Ganapathy said.

Health Minister E. Valsaraj said there was no shortage in the availability of ambulances in Government Hospitals.

P.R. Siva (Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) also complained of non-availability of vehicles to carry the dead bodies. Speaker R. Radhakrishnan suggested that separate vehicles could be provided to carry the bodies to make ambulances free for transporting the critically ill. Mr. Valsaraj said he would look into the complaint and take necessary steps.

Replying to a question from Leader of the Opposition A.M.H. Nazeem (Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam), Tourism Minister Malladi Krishna Rao said the Law Department had cleared the proposal for setting up family entertainment centres at Puducherry, Kariakal and Yanam.
