“Karaikal poised for major development”

KARAIKAL: Karaikal region in is poised for major development of industries and allied activities in the next few years, Puducherry Chief Minister N. Rangasamy said here on Wednesday.

Inaugurating a renovated ‘Kalaiarangam’ named after veteran comedian K.A. Thangavelu at the cost of Rs.78 lakh by the Karaikal Municipality and the Karaikal municipal staff quarters and a community hall here, Mr. Rangasamy said that many programmes could be conducted in the auditorium to encourage the up and coming artists.

The Centre had allocated Rs.1,500 crore for Puducherry for the current year and the amount would be allocated to Puducherry, Karaikal, Mahe, Yanam regions on the basis of population.

R. Prabhavathy, Chairperson of Karaikal Municipality, presided over the function.
