PUDUKOTTAI: Councillors at the Municipal Council meeting held here on Thursday pleaded with the Chairperson, Ramathilagam Udaiyappan, to ensure balanced allocation of funds being sanctioned by the Central and State governments to all the wards. They also urged the Municipal authorities to initiate action for the distribution of relief to the flood and rain-hit people of the town.
A councillor, Ayyappan (AIADMK) said that many a councillor had incurred personal expenditure for the supply of drinking water through lorries in their wards to meet the crisis. He expressed surprise over an agenda seeking the council’s approval for incurring expenditure of Rs.22,000 for the purpose. Another councillor, Arumugam (Congress) protested ‘external’ interference by a few relatives of the Chairperson in the administration of municipality and appealed to her to dispense with the practice in the larger interest of the council.
