KSEB to give 5.55 lakh connections

Special Correspondent

Annual plan approved

Plans to bring down transmission losses to 15% this year

Total outlay for the year fixed at Rs.2,164.57 crore

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) plans to provide 5.55 lakh new connections during 2008-’09.

The director board of the KSEB approved its annual plan for 2008-’09 aiming, among other things, provision of 5,55,000 new connections and drawing of 10,900 kilometre length of 11 kV line, 9,250 kilometres of low tension lines and installation of 9,080 new transformers.

The total outlay for the year has been fixed at Rs.2,164.57 crore, which is Rs.1,016 crore more than the amount originally envisaged for the current year, a KSEB release said here on Friday.

The board, the release said, had earmarked only Rs.1,22.38 crore for the current financial year.

Unlike previous years, the plans for the current year were prepared in a decentralised manner, taking into account the economy, the likely power deficit during the coming year and the need to provide quality power in power-intensive parts of the State.

New transformers

The release said the board intended to bring down transmission losses to 15 per cent this year. With this end in view, 71 new transformers would be set up. The board has already prepared the list of materials needed for completing several ongoing jobs and to ensure that the consumers receive quality service, the release added.

Job for relatives

It said the board had also decided to provide jobs under the dying-in-harness scheme to the dependents of Reji P.V., Joby Antony, Sunny K. Joseph and Geo Xavier, who lost their lives in the Panniar mishap.
