H.N. Ananth Kumar Brahmavar (Udupi District): General Secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party H.N. Ananth Kumar said on Friday that inflation under the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance Government had touched a new high. He was speaking at a BJP party workers’ convention here. Samajwadi Party leader B. Sudhakar Shetty joined the BJP on the occasion. Mr. Kumar said that the wrong economic policies of the Centre were responsible for the increase in the prices of essential commodities. It had failed to check the price rise. The Centre had not released funds for the repair of National Highways in the State, he alleged. The condition of the Bangalore-Mangalore highway and the National Highway 17 passing through Udupi district was pathetic despite the Department being headed by K.H. Muniappa, who was from Karnataka. Even Union Minister of State for Labour Oscar Fernandes, AICC spokesperson M. Veerappa Moily, and Rajya Sabha MP Janardhan Poojari, who belonging to the coastal districts, were doing nothing to get funds for carrying out the repairs of these highways. All these leaders had failed to give Kannada the Classical language tag. “The wrong policies of the Centre had increased the naxalite problem. Terrorist attacks had shown an upswing during the UPA rule”, he alleged. The Congress in the State was in total disarray. It had not been possible for the party to even announce its list of candidates. This was because Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge, Siddaramaiah, S.M. Krishna and Dharam Singh wanted to get ticket for their followers. “The Congress party is not even able to project a candidate for the post of the Chief Minister,” Mr. Kumar said. BJP leaders Raghupati Bhat, Lalaji Mendan, Halady Srinivas Shetty, V.S. Acharya, Kota Srinivas Poojary and others were present.
