HYDERABAD: Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday accused Telugu Desam president N. Chandrababu Naidu of trying to mislead people by saying that his party is not against Telangana and demanded that he clarify what he meant by seeking majority opinion on bifurcation of the State. At a press conference here, BJP spokesperson N. Ramchander Rao urged Mr. Naidu to explain whether majority opinion meant the entire State or only Telangana region. He said the Congress is also adopting an inconsistent stand on the issue with Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy maintaining that the party high command will decide on the issue. While contesting the 2004 Assembly elections, Congress never said that it would be decided by the high command, he said. He also faulted the TRS for not thanking Leader of Opposition L. K. Advani for raising the issue in Parliament. BJP would contest byelections on the plank that separate State could be achieved only through his party. The party’s election management committee would meet on April 20 to decide on the number of seats to contest. The party is willing to enter into a tie-up if any other party approaches it but it should support the cause of Telangana, Mr. Rao said.
