Family members join relay fast
Staff Reporter
TIRUNELVELI: As the relay fast by the functionaries of CITU’s State Express Transport Corporation wing in protest against the “unwarranted transfer” of their secretary R. Arun entered the third day on Friday, their family members also joined their breadwinners in the protest.
The protestors said the CITU’s SETC wing opposed the administration’s move to allow “unlicensed persons” to discharge the duties of conductors even as “official conductors” were struggling to get the duty. Condemning this, the CITU, which organised intensive campaign against the “unlawful procedure,” put up a board here, forcing the administration to change its attitude.
However, the SETC’s Tirunelveli branch manager was transferred and another hoarding which criticised this unnecessary shifting was removed. Since Mr. Arun was spearheading the struggle against the “anti-labour administration,” he was relocated. “Condemning this, we commenced the relay fast on Wednesday. Now, we’ve broadened the protest by involving our family members.
The protest will intensify in the next couple of days, said the CITU’s SETC wing president, T. Jayapandi.
