Gopal acquitted in murder case

ERODE: A Gobichettipalayam court on Wednesday acquitted R.R. Gopal, editor of Tamil weekly Nakkeeran, of charges of abetting crime and screening evidence in the case related to the murder of a police informer. The judge of Fast Track Court II found no evidence against Mr. Gopal, said Bhavani B. Mohan, defence counsel. “The judge told Mr. Gopal that ‘you are not an accused and freed’.”
The prosecution had charged Mr. Gopal with abetting the murder of police informer Rajamani, who forest brigand Veerappan killed in November 1998.
