The Union Finance Minister, Mr. Morarji Desai, said in the Lok Sabha on April 17 that the Government were confident of overcoming all difficulties that might come in the way of implementation of the Second Five-Year Plan. As for the target, Mr. Desai said the original figure of Rs. 4,800 crores still stood; but the question whether on account of increase in prices and other factors, it would go up, and other aspects like external and internal resources were being assessed and worked out by the Planning Commission, he added. Mr. Desai assured the House that “we shall try to see that unnecessary expenditure is removed and wasteful expenditure completely eliminated.”
