SINGAPORE: India’s High Commissioner to Malaysia Ashok Kantha on Friday said the Malaysian authorities had been asked to provide facts about the reported detention of three Indian nationals for alleged immigration offences despite their claims of possessing valid travel documents. The case was taken up following the publication of a news report, earlier in the day, in a Malaysian daily that a farmer, a tailor and a carpenter from India were detained for 18 days, for their alleged illegal stay in Malaysia, before being “rescued” by a local businessman. Picked up during raidQuoting the three and the businessman, the news report, carried on the daily’s online site as well, said the Indian nationals, in Kuala Lumpur to visit their friends and see the country, were picked up in an official raid on the premises they were staying on March 15 last.
