CHENNAI: The ICC has confirmed it is in receipt of a correspondence from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in relation to the pitch used for the third Test between the home side and South Africa in Kanpur. Match Referee Roshan Mahanama had marked the pitch as poor in his report, following which the ICC wrote to the BCCI asking it to respond to the report. The BCCI’s response will be considered — along with the match video — by the ICC’s General Manager (Cricket) David Richardson and the Emirates Elite Panel ICC Chief Match Referee Ranjan Madugalle. They have the power to impose a sanction that can range from a warning to the home Board (along with corrective action required), through a fine imposed on that Board, up to a withdrawal of international status for a period of time for the venue in the case of repeated offences. The home Board can appeal against any sanction imposed and that appeal will be heard by a member of the ICC’s Code of Conduct Commission. The decision of the appeal will be final and binding on both sides. — Special Correspondent
