MEG & Centre in semifinals

BANGALORE: MEG & Centre outclassed CIL 3-0 to enter the semifinals of the Puttaiah Memorial football tournament at the football stadium here on Friday.

CIL with its second straight defeat in the three-team group B is out of contention while MEG will play HASC to determine the group topper.

After Chand Pasha, the CIL custodian, did exceedingly well to stave off early raids from the Sappers there was little he could do to stop a Nigilraj header off an Arun Singh chip into the box in the 44th minute.

Soon after the change of ends, MEG went further ahead. Shiyad stunned the rival defence with a spectacular 30-yard effort. In the 83rd Vineet dribbled past a couple of rival defenders to shoot home. Referee Leo booked MEG’s Nigilraj and substitute Robin Singh and CIL’s Noel with yellow cards. — Special Correspondent
