Loan disbursal targets exceeded

KARUR: The Cooperation Department has exceeded the target for extending short-term crop loans and loan against jewellery to farmers in Karur district during the financial year 2007-2008.
Against the short-term crop loan target of Rs.38.50 crore, these institutions extended Rs.40.33 crore to farmers as on March 31, 2008, for an achievement of 104.77 per cent. The achievement was however just near the target in the medium term loan sector under which Rs.54.64 crore worth credit was disbursed to farmers against the target of Rs.55 crore. Through all the primary agricultural cooperative banks in the district, against the target of Rs.73.90 crore worth credit disbursal against jewellery the banks achieved 129 per cent business disbursing Rs.95.64 crore during the last financial year. Similarly in the non-farm credit sector the cooperative banks in the district achieved 133 per cent disbursing Rs.2.86 crore.
Under the Women Entrepreneur Credit scheme, against the target of Rs.16 lakh, only Rs.9.29 lakh has been disbursed.
