Amendment to the Act mooted by NDA government Sonia asked to spell out her stand on Telangana KARIMNAGAR: Terming the byelections as unfortunate and burden on the State exchequer, BJP senior leader Ch. Vidysagar Rao has stressed the need for amendment to Representatives of People’s Act to avoid frequent resignations and conduct of byelections. Talking to newsmen here on Friday, he said that the elected representatives should continue for five years period after being elected in a democratic process of elections. He stressed on the need for the amendment to Representatives of People’s Act to avoid frequent elections. He said that the idea of amendment to RP Act was mooted by the NDA government after the 13 days and 13 months fallout following the strong move by the intellectuals of the country. There is no agenda for this byelection and the political parties cannot make any promises nor there would be any result for the winners, he said. He alleged that more injustice was being done to the Telangana region after the Congress successfully ditched the TRS after forging an alliance. “In spite of en masse resignations by TRS leaders, there is no change in the exploitation of the situation by the Congress party. If the TRS loses in the elections, the Congress would further exploit the situation and do more harm to Telangana.” He demanded that UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi disclose her stand as she was the one who provoked Telangana sentiment during the 2004 elections. BJP district general secretary B. Jaganmohan Rao was also present.
