PUDUCHERRY: All three MLAs belonging to the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) were suspended for two days as the Puducherry Assembly witnessed uproarious scenes following certain remarks made by two of them against United Progressive Alliance chairperson Sonia Gandhi. The trouble started when leader of the AIADMK legislature party A. Anbalagan made the remarks while speaking on a calling attention motion with regard to the rising prices of essential commodities. After members of the Communist Party of India N. Kalainathan and R. Viswanathan spoke on the motion, Mr. Anbalagan started expressing his party’s views on the issue. Even as he was making some remarks against Ms. Gandhi, the Congress members, including Welfare Minister M. Kandasamy, were on their feet. AIADMK MLA Om Sakthi Sekar came to the rescue of Mr. Anbalagan, resulting in heated exchanges between the two sides. Intervening, Chief Minister N. Rangasamy said the AIADMK MLAs had been raising unnecessary issues instead of speaking on the calling attention motion. He also pleaded with the Chair to expunge the entire speech made by Mr. Anbalagan on the calling attention motion. Leader of the Opposition A.M.H. Nazeem and other members of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and MLAs belonging to the Pattali Makkal Katchi also objected to the remarks made by the AIADMK MLAs against Ms.Gandhi. Speaker R. Radhakrishnan said if the Leader of the House moved a resolution in this regard, action against the AIADMK MLAs would be considered. Mr. Rangasamy pleaded with the Chair to suspend them for a couple of days. The resolution was passed by voice vote.
