BANGALORE: Lalit Modi, Chief Executive and Commissioner of the DLF IPL was a much relieved man as the event got off with a dazzling opening show. “It had been an incredible journey for us to arrive at this point. It was a roller coaster ride and it has always been my dream to give India a inter city league with world class players. What is happening now is beyond my wildest dreams,” said Mr. Modi. He was happy that the differences with the media had been sorted out. “Let us put that behind us. I am sure our media friends would give all their support as they have in the past and make the IPL a resounding success.” Twenty20 has come to stay and Modi stressed the need to make it bigger and truly competitive affair. “A high quality field and great performances are sure to enhance the stature of this game.” Novel experienceIt was a novel experience for the fans with the opening show leaving a great impression on them. “Quite frankly I came to see the opening ceremony more than anything else,” said D. Srinivas, a BPO employee. The children among the crowd went wild as acrobats and stilt walkers did their tricks. There was a sea of red as the Bangalore Royal Challengers’ supporters occupied vantage points waving placards with ‘We love Dravid’ and ‘We love Royal Challengers” written on them.
