Hayden’s contribution will be crucial: Srikkanth

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: Krishnamachari Srikkanth, Chennai Super Kings’ brand ambassador, is awaiting the IPL duel between Matthew Hayden and Brett Lee.

The Super Kings meets Kings XI Punjab in its first match at Mohali on Saturday. Srikkanth believes the Chennai team is up for the challenge.

The former India captain said, “The surface at Mohali could offer some assistance to the pace bowlers. Hayden’s contribution at the top of the order will be crucial.

A threat

“Lee, in particular, will be a threat. But, the Super Kings has a strong batting line-up. I see the contest as one between Chennai’s batting and the Punjab side’s bowling,” he added.

“Do not forget that Twenty20 games are often decided by batting prowess. There are so many aggressive batsmen in the Chennai team,” said Srikkanth.

Even though the surface will encourage the pacemen, Srikkanth said off-spin wizard Muttiah Muralitharan will be a factor. “He has the experience and the variety. He can turn games on any surface.”
