Police catch up with accused in Okhla

NEW DELHI: A 27-year-old man allegedly wanted in a case of robbery and double murder at Murad Nagar in Uttar Pradesh has been arrested at Okhla here. The accused was earlier involved in several cases of murder, dacoity and kidnapping.

The Okhla police recently received a tip-off that Upender, a resident of Baghpat, who along with his accomplices had allegedly robbed a jeweller of Rs.64 lakh and shot down a bus conductor and a U.P. Police constable at Murad Nagar in February, had been spotted in the area. He was arrested allegedly with a country-made firearm and two live cartridges on Thursday.

Upender purportedly told his interrogators that he was first arrested for allegedly killing a professor. In Meerut jail, he came into contact with several gangsters and after being released, he allegedly committed several robberies. In 2003, he allegedly murdered a brick-kiln owner at Murad Nagar. The same year, he allegedly held out extortion threats to a sub-divisional officer at Mansarovar Park here. Upender then allegedly kidnapped the officer for ransom.

In 2005, Upender and his accomplices allegedly tried to rob leather merchants at Budhana in U.P.
