Pornography on mobile phones: three held

Kalpetta: The Ambalavayal police arrested three youngsters on Friday on charges of distributing pornographic material through mobile phones.

The accused were Santhosh (27) of Edakkuni, Raheesh (26) of Mattummal and Shoukkathali (23) of Koorimannil.

District Superintendent of Police K. Vijaysankar said that Santhosh and Raheesh, with the help of Shoukkathali who runs a computer shop in Ambalavayal town, had distributed obscene pictures among youngsters through mobile phones.

The computer shop was raided by the police on Friday evening and a computer and a compact disc were taken into custody.

The local people had complained about the spread of pornographic materials through mobile phones, the police said.

The accused were charged under Indian Penal Code Section 291(obscene material publishing) and Section 67 of IT Act (publishing information which is obscene in electronic form).
