Kalyan to oppose Pradhan’s nomination

Bulandshahr: Differences within the BJP came out in the open on Saturday with its vice-president Kalyan Singh saying he will advise the high command not to allot a ticket to sitting Khurja MP Ashok Pradhan for next year’s Lok Sabha elections.

“Mr. Pradhan was responsible for the defeat of my son Rajvir Singh in the last Assembly elections from Dibai and he has been telling people I am not capable to ensure either the victory or defeat of any candidate,” the former U.P. chief minister told reporters here.

Asked about his course of action if the BJP high command allotted a ticket to Mr. Pradhan, who has been winning the Khurja seat since 1997, Mr. Singh said, “the party has the right to field anyone and the voters the right to choose”.

Matters came to a head over the issue of photographs of the two leaders side-by-side in posters and hoardings in Khurja. -- PTI
