Two boxes containing cash seized in Mysore Election material in gunny bags found in Maddur taluk BANGALORE: In a crackdown on illegal storage of cash and election material, the Mysore district administration seized Rs. 5 lakh, which was kept in a box allegedly for distribution during the election campaign. In another case the Mandya police seized election campaign material worth Rs. 26 lakh in Maddur taluk. Chief Electoral Officer M.N. Vidyashankar told presspersons here on Saturday that Mysore Deputy Commissioner P. Manivannan and Superintendent of Police Rama Subbu seized two boxes containing money. While Rs. 5 lakh was found in one box, the cash in the other was yet to be counted. The Mandya district administration and the police seized election material worth Rs. 26 lakh kept in 31 gunny bags in a village in Maddur taluk. The flags, buntings and posters belonged to the Janata Dal (Secular). The police registered criminal complaints in both cases against the accused for violation of the model code of conduct, Mr. Vidyashankar said. He said 473 criminal cases had been filed against various party workers and leaders for violation of the model code of conduct across the State. The general observers appointed by the Election Commission will arrive in Bangalore from Sunday onwards. The Commission has appointed one observer for each Assembly constituency. It has also appointed 61 expenditure observers to monitor the expenditure incurred by candidates on the election campaign. If required, two expenditure observers will be posted in Bellary district, Mr. Vidyashankar said. NominationsSeventeen candidates, including three BJP candidates, filed their nomination papers in various places across the State on Saturday. BJP nominees Pramila Nesargi, A. Ravi and V.S. Shyamasundar filed their nomination papers to contest from Vijayanagar, Byatarayanapura and Chamarajpet constituencies respectively in Bangalore Urban district, sources in the office of the CEO said.
