CPI may contest at least one seat in bypolls

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The Communist Party of India State council is assessing the possibility of fielding its nominee for at least one constituency in Telangana region.

The CPI State secretariat which met here on Saturday identified four Assembly segments – Aler, Huzurabad, Medaram and Station Ghanpur – as potential segments where the party feels it had significant presence. The party’s State leadership has asked the district leaders to furnish reports at the earliest enabling the State leadership to take a decision on the issue.

The CPI State secretariat, however, decided to take a final decision after consulting the other Left party – Communist Party of India (Marxist). The CPI(M) has already announced its intentions to field its candidates from Musheeerabad and Cheriyal Assembly constituencies, but the CPI leaders are firm that they have little stakes in the segments that are going to polls on May 29.
