Capture domestic market, Vaghela tells garment units
Staff Reporter
TIRUPUR: Union Textiles Minister Shankersinh Vaghela on Saturday asked the garment manufactures to capture the domestic market, as a retail boom was sweeping the entire country. “After all, we are the second fastest growing economy in the world, with the second largest population and the largest chunk of the youth population. Without losing our share in the international market we also need to cash in on the opportunities unfolding in the domestic market,” Mr.Vaghela told a gathering at the inauguration of the Palladam Hi-tech Weaving Park, 20 km from here. Terming the difficulties faced by the textile and clothing industry temporary, he said problems these should not be allowed to cloud “our long term vision.”
Unique initiative
Palladam is one of the major powerloom clusters in the country and will be one of the largest manufacturing hubs for weaving of larger width fabrics for the home furnishing market. Mr. Vaghela said the park was a unique initiative of public-private-partnership under the Scheme for Integrated Textile Parks.
