Golden chariot for temple

Staff Reporter

NAMAKKAL: Namakkal Sri Anjaneyar will have His golden chariot from Sunday thus fulfilling the long cherished dream of His devotees.

According to the temple authorities the car was designed and built at a cost of Rs. 1.55 crore, as donations from devotees, for which works were started during January 2007.

Artisans from Madurai and Kanyakumari were engaged in this piece of work.

This exquisitely carved car in the form of horses-driven chariot was made in wood and was covered with gold and silver plates.

Later tiny electric bulbs were installed to provide charm to the car.

The piece of art measured up to 9.45 feet high.
