Local flavour: The survey showed that the Glass House at Lalbagh in Bangalore is a popular spot.

Bangalore: As Bangalore grows into an overwhelming concrete jungle, one of its most important lung spaces, Lalbagh, has never been more valued by its residents. In fact, so eager are Bangaloreans to see Lalbagh green and plastic-free, that 70 per cent of them, a survey found, are willing to volunteer in the upkeep of the park.

In an opinion poll of 417 visitors to Lalbagh, conducted in March by market research firm Feedback Consulting, 46 per cent of respondents said the park could be cleaner. According to the survey, to most visitors, Lalbagh represented a rare green space, a place for a quiet walk and away from pollution. The Glass House was also a big draw to more than half the respondents.

The need for cleanliness ranked highest on the visitors’ list. Around 40 per cent said they wanted drinking water facilities; 31 per cent said that more toilets were required and 26.7 per cent said they would like to see more entertainment. The majority surveyed were residents of Bangalore.
