Andhra Pradesh
Vijayawada has become the key centre for a series of attacks on girl students. The other day it was Ayesha Meera and now it is Meena Kumari. Even still the murder of Ayesha is under active investigation, an attempt had been made on the life of Meena Kumari, an engineering student. As matters stand at present, one fails to understand as to what actually prompts the youth to resort to this dastardly act. It still remains enigmatic. In this context, I sincerely appeal to the investigating authorities, to just think, as to what prompts the present day youth to resort to such extreme step. I. Subash Samuel Ulavapadu, Prakasam district No latest phone directoryThe BSNL authorities of West Godavari district have published the telephone directory in 1999 and a supplement in 2000. Subsequently, two exchanges have come up in Ashok Nagar and Thangellamudi areas of the city. A number of phone numbers have been changed. Further there are deletions and additions in the phone connections. But, till date, no further publication of directory has taken place. I request the BSNL authorities to publish a latest directory at least by the end of year 2008. Mohd. Nazeeurddin Eluru Litmus testChief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s development slogan is in for the litmus test, with one third of the Assembly seats in Telangana going to the by-elections next month. Bypolls are scheduled to be held for 18 Assembly seats and four Lok Sabha seats in Telangana region. There are reports in media that the Chief Minister asked his ministers to forget about ticket in next year’s general elections if the party conceded majority to the TRS in bypolls. The same would be for Congress MLAs whose Assembly seats would be witnessing bypolls as part of four Lok Sabha seats that are vacant. Mr. Rajasekhara Reddy need not to worry about results, if was sure of his development. G. Madhurima Yellendu Ball in people’s courtThe political parties are busy in preparations for the by-elections scheduled to be held on May 29. Each party had its own compulsions. For some parties it is struggle for existence. For the separatist TRS, it would be now or never, as it is responsible for the by-elections. For the ruling Congress, it would be a prestigious issue, as Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy has been chanting development mantra. It is struggle for existence for the BJP, while the TDP would have to prove that the people support Visalandhra. People should judge each party carefully before casting their vote. The people should teach a befitting lesson to the leaders, who make mockery of democratic process, for their personal gains. A.K. Sujatha Khammam All for powerUtter chaos marked the Guntur Municipal Corporation general body meeting, as some Congress and Telugu Desam Party corporators almost traded blows over issues of procedures. The pandemonium has only served to further delay in passing the Mayoral baton from Kanna clan to Rayapati clan. The general body meeting became a forum for settling personal scores and to gain upper hand over opponents. In a democratic setup, it is corporators who are supposed to elect the Mayor. But, the Congress party ridiculed democracy by inventing share of power among its groups. The party had utterly failed to implement that plan in a respectable manner also. J. Rama Rao Narasaraopet
