Golden chariot for Sri Anjaneyar temple

Trial run conducted on the temple premises


Artisans used 11.5 kg of gold worth

Rs. 1.15 crore

Devotees can pay Rs. 1,500 and draw the car

For devotees: The golden chariot of Namakkal Sri Anjaneyar. —

NAMAKKAL: Namakkal Sri Anjaneyar will have His golden chariot from Sunday thus fulfilling the long cherished dream of His devotees.

Madurai artisans

According to the temple authorities the car was designed and built at a cost of Rs. 1.55 crore, as donations from devotees, for which works were started during January 2007.

Artisans from Madurai and Kanyakumari were engaged in this piece of work.

Horse-driven

This exquisitely carved car in the form of horses-driven chariot was made in wood and was covered with gold and silver plates.

Electric bulbs

Later tiny electric bulbs were installed to provide charm to the car.

The piece of art was measured up to 9.45 feet high.

Artisans used 11.5 kg of gold worth Rs. 1.15 crore and 24 kg silver worth Rs. 5.28 lakh.

Other than these two precious metals, the workers also used copper and wood of high quality.

Collector’s visit

Collector G. Sundaramurthy also visited the temple and monitored the progress. All important works concerning with the car concluded during last week.

On Sunday, it was put on a majestic trial run in which various dignitaries and large number of devotees participated.

Temple administration said that devotees could pay Rs. 1,500 and draw the car on the temple premises.
