Mounted police to patrol Shimla

Shimla: Faced with rising incidents of theft and eve-teasing, Shimla Police has decided to deploy mounted police force for patrolling in the city. “Mounted policeman would move around the city in shifts to check incidents of theft and also nab eve-teasers,” Superintendent of Police R.M. Sharma said.

The Shimla Police has at present six horses and all of them would be put into patrolling duty. The policemen would roam around in the city covering all localities from Sanjhauli to Mall road and bus stand.

The step has been taken in the wake of increase in cases of theft in the famous tourist place. About a dozen cases of theft have been reported in Shimla city in the past one month. There have also been reports of burglars breaking into ATMs in the Mall road and Sanjahuli areas. Police would also keep a close watch over eve-teasers . — PTI
