NEW DELHI: Protests by students of Dyal Singh College against acquiring college land notwithstanding, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has clarified that it cannot change the alignment of the Central Secretariat-Badarpur Line owing to technical reasons. Pointing out that it required a very small area for its construction work, the DMRC said it required only 3.9 per cent of the college land on a permanent basis for the Central Secretariat-Badarpur Line, which has to be completed in less than three years. Seeking the release of land urgently, the DMRC said the land takeover has already been delayed considerably, making it difficult to meet the target date of completion. The line is scheduled to be complete by August 2010. Referring to why the construction cannot be shifted to the CRPF ground, the DMRC said: “It is not feasible due to a sharp vertical curve in the alignment right after the station box of proposed Jawaharlal Nehru Station. The vertical curve has 300 metres of radius and the minimum curve required for station area is 1,000 metres. If we move towards the south that is towards CRPF ground, it will be very difficult to divert the utilities of the Delhi Jal Board pumping station.” The DMRC said: “After crossing the nullah we have to make a shaft for taking up tunnelling work through a tunnel boring machine up to the proposed Khan Market metro station.” The DMRC has also put forth that the ancillary building will have a chiller plant, a ventilation shaft and other electrical equipment, essential to make an underground station functional and can be accommodated only at the end of the station.
