CHANDIGARH: Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said on Sunday that his regime had augmented the supply of potable drinking water in 2,691 villages during the last three years. Besides this, Rajiv Gandhi Drinking Water Supply Scheme had also been launched in Mewat to augment water supply at a cost of Rs. 206 crore. Addressing a gathering after laying the foundation stone of a water supply scheme to be built at Nangal village in Bhiwani, Mr.Hooda reiterated that to ensure equitable distribution of water in the State, Bhakra Main Line Hansi Bhutana Multi Purpose Link Canal was being constructed at a cost of Rs. 354 crore and Dadupur Nalvi Canal at a cost of Rs. 267 crore.He claimed that so far over three lakh free of cost water connections had been released to the families belonging to scheduled castes under Indira Gandhi Potable Drinking Water Scheme which envisages giving eight lakh such connections. A water tank of 200 litre capacity and a tap had also been given free of cost along with these connections, he added. Haryana, he said, was the first State to give maximum compensation to the farmers for acquisition of land.
