KOLKATA: Chirag United of Kolkata rode on Theodore Sunday Wrobeh’s hat-trick to down Pune FC 4-2 in a final-phase league encounter of the I-League Division II played at the Nehru Stadium, Guwahati on Sunday. Playing for the four slots on offer for the I-League proper, the Kolkata side, coached by veteran Amal Dutta, played a brilliant second session to bring up the convincing win. Wrobeh took United ahead in the 13th minute of the first session. But the lead was nullified in the 43rd minute when Pune FC forward Emeka Hyginus found the equaliser for the Pune side. Going into the second session with honours even, Chirag United took the initiative early with Wrobeh finding the lead again with a goal in the 58th minute. The Liberian striker continued to show form as he found the net again in the 64th minute to complete his hat-trick. United went ahead with substitute forward Shankar Oraon striking in the 67th minute to make it 4-1. Pune salvaged some pride with Bounougou Edoa reducing the margin with a goal in the 85th minute. Monday is a rest day and the second round action starts on Tuesday with Indian Bank, Chennai, taking on Mohammedan Sporting, Kolkata. — Principal Correspondent
