CUTTACK: Despite the current scorching heat that has thrown the normal life out of gear, the Millennium city is decking up for a summer festival, which has been aptly named as “Biasakhi Baliyatra”. The ten-day long festival is all set to begin from April 25 at the same ground where the historic Baliyatra festival is held in the winters. “To promote trade and commerce and to provide a platform for exposure to small scale entrepreneurs, we thought of organising another festival in the same grandeur as that of famous Baliyatra in Cuttack about four years ago”, say the organisers of this unique concept. Cuttack was chosen because any product that clicks in Cuttack would sell like hot cakes all over the State, the organisers add. This year the festival is being organised in a grand manner with an aim to provide all sorts of entertainment that are associated with the winter Baliyatra. More than 150 stalls with as many as 25 government stalls are to come up at this festival keeping the same majestic touch of the original Baliyatra, the organisers informed. The festival would continue up to May 5. Traditional craftsDepicting the symbol of ancient maritime glory of the erstwhile Kalinga, the festival would try to showcases the traditional art and craft of the State with full-scale entertainment too. Stalls having electronics goods, handicrafts, fast foods, including thunka puri and Dahi vada-alu dum have all lined up to make brisk business. Like the original festival, the district administration has made elaborate arrangements for the festival. Cuttack Municipal Corporation and Cuttack Development Authority along with other agencies have set up their stall for the ten-day long festival.
