Unique congregation

Correspondent

CUTTACK: The devout people of Cuttack could not have asked for anything more than this. On Sunday night, the people of the city witnessed what they might not have imagined before. All the idols of deities of different Shakti Peets in the State were congregated at the Gadagadia ghat of the city, close to Chandi mandir, the abode of the deity of the city.

The congregation of the deities called ‘Devi Melan’ is being organized by the “Gahan Dal”, a spiritually group of people, who have earlier organized several such festivals in many parts of the State. “This Cuttack festival is being organized for world peace and universal brotherhood”, said Narain Mishra, a priest who would be performing the puja on the occasion.

The idols of the deities of Biraja of Jajpur, Sarala of Jhankad, Tarini of Ghatgaon, Charchika of Banki, Mangala of Kakatpur, Bhadra Kali of Bhadrak and Bhagabati of Banapur are brought here in colourful procession.
