Balangir: Eighty-eight bonded labourers from Balangir district, engaged in brick kilns in Andhra Pradesh for the past five months, have been rescued, official sources said. The labourers, including 22 children, were rescued from brick kilns at Madaram in Medak district of Andhra after Balangir district administration was informed of their plight, District Labour Officer Pradip Kumar Bhoi said here on Sunday. One of the labourers had escaped and informed the local authorities about their condition, Bhoi said adding that the matter was taken up with Andhra Pradesh authorities. An official team led by the Assistant District Labour Officer went to the spot and rescued labourers. The labourers alleged that they were toiling in difficult conditions without adequate food and medical facilities.
